IKI – International Keio Institute for Architecture and Urbanism –initiated and established in 2O1O, by three Keio academics, Professors Kazuyo Sejima (IKI Design Director), Darko Radović (IKI International Director) and Hiroto Kobayashi (IKI Managing Director), with generous support of Professor Kouhei Ohnishi (IKI Engineering Director) – has been launched at L;a Biennale di Venezia, on 29 August 2010.
IKI was conceived as a platform for various research and design-research, with an aim to bring together best institutions and individuals in the field of architecture and urbanism and facilitate cross fertilisation of their creative and research efforts. Institute builds upon strong interdisciplinary tradition of Keio and resources in all of Keio departments which are traditionally associated with architecture and urban design, ranging from sciences and technology to humanities
IKI was launched with a Symposium
Environmental, Urban and Architectural Design Education for a Just World: Teaching and Learning with Global South
That inaugural IKI event has put forward for discussion some of the key issues of new Keio Environmental Innovator Course.
The Symposium addressed new tendencies and trends in environmental design education, with particular reference to Asian, African and South American countries. The discussion provided an intellectual basis for IKI-EIC Conference, to be held at Keio, 17-18 December 2O1O.
First IKI Symposium was introduced by Kazuyo Sejima, and facilitated by Darko Radović and Hiroto Kobayashi.
